Throughout the Pacific Whale Foundation’s Sunrise Whalewatch cruise, certified professional naturalists will describe and educate you about the behaviors of the ocean wildlife focusing on the humpback whale. You will learn on this Hawaii Whale Watch Tour that between the months of December and April, whales migrate from the frigid ocean waters of the North Pacific Ocean and make an annual 3,000 mile journey to the tropical South Pacific Ocean to mate and give birth. During the Maui Whalewatching excursion offered by Hawaii Travel Network, you will continue to learn more interesting whale facts. Humpback whales require warm water for their newborn calves, due to the fact they are born without a protective layer of blubber that is essential in keeping whales warm in sub-zero ocean water. The temperature of the ocean around the island of Maui remains at a consistent 75 degrees creating a safe haven for humpback whales to give birth. The islands that closely surround Maui such as Kahholawi, Lanai, and Molkai form a shallow basin creating a refuge and protection for the humpback whale. The water depth around these islands is around 300 feet providing a fortification from predators. This is the perfect situation for the 45-foot long humpback whales. The ocean waters of Maui have generated an ideal place for the humpback whales’ winter home! Reserve a Sunrise Whalewatch adventure sponsored by Pacific Whale Foundation for the most informative and breathtaking tour available in Hawaii.
