Mauna Kea Tour: Mauna Kea Summit & Stars Adventure
Enjoy the drive as you climb 13,796 feet above
sea level driving to the summit of Mauna Kea. The drive along the coast will
provide breathtaking scenery as you travel over desolate lava flows, and up the
rolling pasturelands. Saddle Road will take you between the two majestic
volcanoes, Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The gorgeous landscapes of the dry forest
and rainforest, and ranchland will astound you. Included in this drive will be
sights of lava tubes, kipuka, cinder cones, and lava flows. Once you arrived at
the summit you will see majestic views of Mauna Loa, Haleakala on Maui, and
Hualalai. You will be standing on the world’s tallest mountain, measuring over
32,000 feet from the floor of the ocean to its summit. At the visitor’s center
you can get up close and personal with nature using the world-class telescopes
located on Mauna Kea and be awed with nature’s inspiring creation.
Volcano Tour: Twilight Volcano Adventure
The
journey to the volcanoes takes you between Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, two of the
world’s largest volcanic mountains. The area between these two mountains is
commonly referred to as “The Saddle” and rare plants and animals are found
there. A brief stop at Mauna Kea State Park will be the next stop and then onto
Hilo and the exploration of Kaumana Cave. The cave is a lava tube that pushed
molten rock from Mauna Loa to the ocean leaving terrain that provides a
subterranean adventure. The next adventure will be inside Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park. The national park interpretive guides will share hidden
treasures and interesting locations on this biosphere preserve such as cinder
fields, native rainforests, steam vents, and much more. Conditions of the
volcano consistently change, therefore the guides will check which eruptive
site is active. Kalapan viewing area provides a dramatic witness to the power
of lava as it flows into the ocean at sunset. Halemaumau Crater has a secluded
lake that contains molten rock that glows after dark. The energy of these two
areas will impress you and create a lasting memory of Hawaii vacation.
Waterfall Tour: Kohala Water Falls
Adventure
“There
is life in the rain” is the Hawaiian proverb that tells of the eternal cycle of
water as it shapes the valleys, streams, cliffs, and landscapes of the islands.
Rain always gives to the island the appearance of a dazzling countryside and
provides free flowing waterfalls of Kohala. The journey begins with a drive to
the fertile green country of Kohala taking you up the North Kona coastline
traveling over lava flows left behind from the majestic Kohala, Mauna Kea, and
Mauna Loa mountains. Keep an eye on the shoreline, you may be able to catch the
sight of a spinner dolphin splashing, or in the migration months, a humpback
whale breaching. Enjoy the charming plantation towns of Kapaau and Hawi where
the life-size stature of King Kamehameha I is located. The road ends and you
will climb onto our Pinzgauer and ride a bumpy but brief road to an old
sugarcane road where the construction of the Kohala Ditch Trail begins. The
ditch was built to irrigate the plantation sugar cane fields. You will witness
the tunnels that were carved from solid rock, walk over two bridges and learn
the history of this fantastic achievement that runs for 22 miles. The grand
finale of the tour is the majestic, cascading waterfalls that add beauty to
this historical area. This is an inspirational adventure for all to learn of
Kohala’s “story of water.”
