Body Glove Cruises Captain Cook Cruise
Step into a time machine and travel back 1,000 years to when brave and courageous Polynesians sailed across 2,000 miles of unchartered waters on the South Pacific in search for new land with only the ocean currents and stars guiding them. Learn how ancient inhabitants of the Hawaiian Islands lived, worshipped, and planted during the period of time when Captain Cook and his men arrived on the Big Island. As the Body Glove Cruise, featuring Captain Cook Historical Cruise, sails down the Kona Coast the knowledgeable guides will share Hawaii’s rich history with stories of Captain Cook’s arrival in 1778 on the Big Island. Captain Cook was a British Naval Officer with the assignment to find the North-west Passage. The sailors believed there was a waterway connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Of course, he was not successful in discovering the imaginary route; therefore, he sailed both of his ships south and discovered the chain of Hawaiian Islands. The first time Cook stepped foot on the Big Island, the ancient natives believed him to be a God, but relations with the island inhabitants became bitter after a ship was stolen. Captain Cook tried to capture a local leader to hold him hostage until the return of the ship, but a brawl broke out and Captain Cook was killed by a stab wound. Enjoy other legends, stories, and history as the Body Glove Cruise sets sail in the Hawaiian sunset!
